Is your Website is down or just very slow

Traceroute is a utility that records the route between your computer and a specified destination on the Internet. It also calculates and displays the amount of time each hop takes. This utility can help you determine whether the network to your Web site is down or just very slow. Verio Support uses this information to track the issue. If you cannot reach your Web site, you will want to run a traceroute before you contact HostingByEDS Support.

Step 1. To send to support.. Determine your IP address. Goto http://www.whatismyip.org/ and copy your IP address.

Step 2.
  • Windows 7 or Vista: From the Start menu, in the search field, type cmd , and then press Enter.
  • Previous versions: From the Start menu, select Run... . In the "Open:" box, type cmd , and then press Enter.
  1. From the desktop, click Start; click Run.
  2. From the Run dialog box, in the Open text box, enter command. Click OK
  3. From the DOS window, at the prompt, enter tracert, followed by a space, and then either your domain IP address or your domain name (e.g., www.forexample-domain.com). Traceroute will tell you how many routers your packets travel through, how long it takes to travel between routers, and if the routers have DNS entries, as well as the names of the routers and their network affiliation and geographic location.
  4. Check for times between hops that are greater than 200 ms or that return asterisks (*), which indicate your request timed out.
  5. Review results, to copy, right click, select "select all",while pressing the CTRL key press C; then paste to notepad or email to send to us.
  6. To close the DOS window, type exit and hit the enter key.
